Recommended Resouce: How Do I Teach This Child to Read

How Do I Teach This Kid to Read?: Teaching Literacy Skills to Young Children with Autism, from Phonics to FluencyI have had the pleasure of receiving a review copy of the book How Do I Teach This Kid to Read:  teaching Literacy Skills to Young Children with Autism, from Phonics to Fluency for Sensational Homeschooling, which is now a part or Our Journey THRU AutismAlthough the book is aimed at teaching reading to children on the autism spectrum, I feel that it is a useful book for improving any young child's phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency.  The activities in it are clear, engaging and targeted to enhance important reading skills.  Plus, the book comes with a cd-rom full of ready-made activity printables.  Love that in a resource!  Just click, print and go...  Great for busy home and traditional educators!

Want to learn more about the book?  OJTA will be featuring activities from it each month on the 11th, beginning this month.  In fact,  I wrote up an activity called the "Dipthong Song" the other day, which is a perfect way to segue from the holiday tunes we have recently been enjoying to strengthening connections between letter combinations and the sounds they make.  Enjoy!
